All 28 Lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday approved the request made by Governor Nyesom Wike to secure a loan of N10 billion from Zenith Bank.
Wike had earlier sent in a request letter for a loan of N10 billion which was transmitted to the House of Assembly for approval in order to execute projects such as rehabilitation of roads within the Port Harcourt metropolis, renovation of the Assembly and High Court complexes, construction of Abonnema Bridge and completion of Agip road among others.
The Rivers State Government stated his desire to complete all the projects within his first 100 days in office.
The letter which was read before the House by the Speaker, Hon. Ikuinyi Ibani received a welcome appraisal as the 28 lawmakers unanimously approved the Governor’s request.
Honourable Martins Amewhule, the Leader of the House and others who spoke before the issue was voted on commended the Governor for attaching details of the proposed projects to his letter.
Honourable Evans Bipi, member representing Ogu/Bolo constituency, lending support to the proposed sum said the N10 billion loan was an indication that Wike intended to be astute and diligent as far as spending the funds was concerned.
The money is small but it shows that our Governor will be diligent with public funds.”
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress APC, in Rivers State has kicked against the approval, condemning the State House of Assembly for assenting to such a loan for Wike.
